Anonymised delivery showcase

Project Waypoint

A representative migration from on-premises infrastructure into Azure, covering multiple complex applications, secure remote access, Azure Virtual Desktop, RemoteApps, and operational transition.

Current estate On-premises apps and services
Target state Azure, AVD, RemoteApps and operations

The situation

A complicated estate needed a cleaner operating model, not a lift-and-shift copy.

The scenario starts with a traditional on-premises environment running several important business applications, supporting services, shared data, user access dependencies, and operational processes built up over time.

The aim is to move the organisation toward Azure while keeping business services available, giving remote and hybrid users secure access, and leaving the internal team with a platform they can operate with confidence.

Application complexity Several interdependent applications needed assessment, migration treatment decisions, data movement planning, testing, acceptance and support ownership.
User access Some users needed a full virtual desktop experience, while others only needed secure RemoteApps for specific workflows.
Operational change The project needed new governance, monitoring, patching, backup, access control and handover patterns rather than simply moving servers.

How HCS would lead it

Structured enough to control risk. Flexible enough to solve the real problem.

The exact architecture remains customer-specific, but the delivery pattern is clear: understand dependencies, design a practical target, migrate in controlled waves, prove access, and hand over an operating model.

01

Discover

Map applications, identity, data, access paths, operational ownership, dependencies, constraints and success criteria.

02

Design

Shape the Azure landing approach, security baseline, migration waves, application treatment plan, AVD access and RemoteApp delivery model.

03

Migrate

Move workloads and users in measured phases, with test evidence, rollback thinking, acceptance checks and clear change communication.

04

Operate

Leave documentation, monitoring expectations, support runbooks, cost visibility and ownership boundaries that make the new platform sustainable.

Scope highlights

What the showcase demonstrates.

Project Waypoint is deliberately anonymised. It avoids customer names, business sector, application names, network design, sizing, security exceptions and commercial detail.

Azure migration leadership Coordinating technical discovery, stakeholder decisions, migration waves, acceptance criteria and operational readiness.
AVD and RemoteApps Separating full desktop needs from app-only access so users get the right experience without unnecessary complexity.
Application modernisation decisions Identifying where to rehost, replatform, retire, replace or redesign rather than treating every server as a migration unit.
Security and governance Keeping identity, access, monitoring, backup, resilience, cost and change records visible through the migration.

Planning a migration?

Talk to Johnny before the design hardens.

The best migration work starts before the target estate is locked in. HCS can help shape the decisions, challenge assumptions, and make the route to Azure practical.
